What are the common types of headaches?

Headaches are pain that is felt anywhere in the head and can have many causes. Many people experience headaches and migraines, in some cases the terms are used interchangeably by the public.

There are four common types of headaches. Sinus, Tension, Migraine and Cluster.

How can you help me?

In our clinic we commonly see patients who have headaches and migraines. Some treatment options include:

  • Our unique soft tissue therapy aimed at breaking down adhesions in the small muscles under the skull called sub-occipital muscles.

  • Adjustments to the joints of the cervical and thoracic spine

  • Ergonomic advice for work environments

  • Postural advice for sitting, driving and standing etc

  • Education on self-management and how to identify triggers

  • Re-education of shoulder movements

  • Strengthening of the cervical spine, thoracic spine and shoulders

  • Co-management with medical doctors for complex cases

When should I be concerned?

Before treatment of any headache pain, serious pathology must be ruled out. Serious headaches may be felt as: Sudden, severe, very intense, sharp, occur with a stiff neck and fever.
